A royalty is a legally binding payment made to an individual or company for the ongoing use of their assets, such as a copyrighted work or a song.

If a song is distributed, licensed to a third party, used in a public setting, or consumed via streaming services, a royalty is generated.

The royalty payment amount is relative to how much the song is used or consumed via streaming services.
